WTOP and Ackerman Security Systems Charity of the Month for August is the Alzheimer’s Association, the world’s leading voluntary health organization in Alzheimer’s care, support and research.

The Alzheimer’s Association 24/7 Helpline (800.272.3900) provides reliable information about Alzheimer’s and dementia; medications and treatment options; skills to provide and/or seek quality care; and legal, financial and living-arrangement decisions. The Association’s online Care Center helps caregivers coordinate assistance from family and friends, locate senior housing, receive customized care recommendations, enhance caregiving skills, and learn ways to keep loved ones with dementia safe.

Free education programs are offered in the community and online. Support groups also are available in-person and online to allow people with Alzheimer’s, families and caregivers to share experiences, coping skills and tips and find support and friendships with others living with Alzheimer’s.
