BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — LSU freshman defensive tackle Trey Lealaimatafao might not be able to play this season after he injured his arm punching through glass in the Tigers’ weight room.

LSU spokesman Michael Bonnette says Lealaimatafao was hospitalized Monday to treat a deep cut to his arm. School officials have not offered further details on why the player punched through glass, the severity of the injury or the effect it could have on Lealaimatafao’s career.

The 6-foot, 300-pound Lealaimatafao was a coveted recruit who was expected to compete for playing time immediately.

As a senior at San Antonio’s Warren High School, he was credited with 53 tackles, seven sacks, three forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries. He was honored as a U.S. Army All-American.
