D.C. restaurant on list of must-eat breakfast sandwiches

WASHINGTON — Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, and it helps if the first meal you eat of the day is also delicious.

The Food blog Serious Eats is out with a list of 12 must-eat breakfast sandwiches across America, which includes a local D.C. restaurant.

The sandwich that tops the list in northwest D.C. is named “Buenos Dias” at Red Apron and has a special twist — tigelles. According to Serious Eats, tigelles are Italian flatbreads grilled in lard, which takes the place of the biscuit.

The “Buenos Dias” has egg, chorizo, cheddar, pickled onion and sour cream, making it a South American-style Egg McMuffin, according to Serious Eats.

Serious Eats surveyed its contributors from different locations around the world and asked them, “What’s your ultimate breakfast sandwich?”

Sandwiches in Atlanta and Philadelphia also made the list.
