Arizona’s Ross to DL with calf strain

PHOENIX (AP) — The Arizona Diamondbacks placed outfielder Cody Ross on the 15-day disabled list with a left calf strain and recalled outfielder Alfredo Marte from Triple-A Reno.

Ross hit .238 with two home runs and 11 RBIs in 66 games this season after returning from a dislocated hip in 2013. He started to play better over the past month, hitting .358 with a homer in four RBIs in 25 games.

Marte will be making his third stint with the Diamondbacks after hitting .326 with 11 homers and 45 RBIs in 75 games at Reno. He went 5 for 22 with three RBIs in 11 games his previous two stints in the majors.
