Va. Tech institute receives 2 federal contracts

BLACKSBURG, Va. (AP) — The federal government has awarded two contracts potentially worth $55 million to the Virginia Tech Transportation Institute.

Virginia Tech said Monday that the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration awarded a contract to further study commercial truck driver safety. The contract is for up to five years and up to $30 million.

The institute also received a contract from the National Highway Safety Administration to research automated-vehicle technology. The contract is for up to five years and a maximum $25 million.
