DENVER (AP) — The city of Aurora and two police officers who are potential prosecution witnesses in the Colorado theater shootings case are fighting attempts by defense attorneys to get the officers’ disciplinary records.

City attorneys filed motions over the weekend seeking to toss out subpoenas for the records. The officers’ attorneys filed similar motions last week.

Both officers had a role in the response to the July 20, 2012, shootings. Prosecutors disclosed that both were the subject of internal police department investigations that concluded each made untruthful statements in investigations not related to the shootings.

The defense says the disciplinary records could weaken the officers’ credibility as witnesses.

James Holmes pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity to the attack, which killed 12 and injured 70. Prosecutors are seeking the death penalty.
