Hossler has two-stroke lead in Southern Amateur

OOLTEWAH, Tenn. (AP) — Beau Hossler made an eagle on the ninth hole Friday and finished at 8-under 208 for sole possession of the lead heading into the final round of the 108th Southern Amateur.

Hossler, from Mission Viejo, California, shot a 70 on Friday at The Honors Course for a two-stroke advantage over Trevor Cone of Concord, North Carolina. Hossler begins his sophomore year at Texas this fall. Cone golfs for Virginia Tech.

Will Starke of Chapin, South Carolina, is three strokes off the pace.

Hossler had started the third round tied for the lead with Grayson Murray of Raleigh, North Carolina. Murray was at 1 under and on the 17th hole Friday when he withdrew from the event.

The winner of the 72-hole tournament earns a spot in the PGA Tour’s Arnold Palmer Invitational.
