Car submerged in New Jersey park lake; driver dead

LAWRENCE, N.J. (AP) — An accident involving a dump truck and a car has sent both vehicles into a southern New Jersey lake, submerging the car and killing its driver.

Lawrence Police Lt. Charles Edgar says the truck rammed the car while it was at a traffic light Thursday afternoon. He says the vehicles wound up in Colonial Lake with the truck on top of the submerged car.

Police haven’t released the victim’s identity pending family notification. Police say the truck driver was injured but alert and was taken to a hospital. There were no passengers in either vehicle.

A coroner removed a body from the scene on Thursday evening.
