Prince William County questions presence of immigrant kids

WOODBRIDGE, Va. (AP) — Prince William County is seeking details from the federal government on immigrant children being housed in the county after crossing the border into the U.S. unaccompanied.

Corey Stewart, chairman of the county’s board of supervisors, says the federal government failed to inform the county that an unknown number of children have been sent to stay at a private facility in Bristow. At a board meeting Tuesday, he directed the county executive to seek more details from the feds.

WJLA-TV reports (http://wj.la/1oWT17d) that Stewart, an opponent of illegal immigration, expressed sympathy for the kids who have crossed the border, but nevertheless feels they need to be sent back home. He said the children could strain the school system and bring communicable diseases.
