Hamas says it’s developed drones that can carry weapons

JERUSALEM (AP) — Palestinian health officials now say at least 175 people have been killed in Israeli air attacks, including dozens of civilians.

The continuing airstrikes included two that struck a southern Gaza city today. Hospital officials say three people were killed in an airstrike that hit their house, and a neighbor was killed in another attack while standing on the roof of his home.

Meanwhile, Hamas may be trying a new tactic against Israel, after launching nearly 1,000 rockets that didn’t cause any Israeli deaths. Israel says it shot down a drone today that had been launched from Gaza. Hamas says it actually launched three drones today — and that it has some drones that can carry weapons.

Israel’s defenses minister says Hamas is “trying everything it can to produce some kind of achievement” — and that Israel needs to remain alert.

Also today, three suspects in the kidnapping and killing of a Palestinian teenager have appeared in an Israeli court, and were ordered held until the end of the week. Police say they’ve admitted abducting the teen and setting him on fire.
