Charles Severance indicted on weapons charge

WASHINGTON — A Loudoun County Grand Jury has indicted Charles Severance for possession of a weapon by a convicted felon, says the county’s Commonwealths Attorney’s office.

The gun charge is not related to an Alexandria police investigation into the three unsolved murders of Nancy Dunning, Ron Kirby and Ruthanne Lodato.

However, police in Alexandria say Severance is their primary focus in solving the series of murders.

Severance, 53, will be back in court Tuesday morning in Leesburg, Virginia, where he’ll be served with the indictment and the next hearing date will be set, the office says.

In the past, Severance’s defense attorneys criticized the weapons charge calling it a sham, saying the prosecution’s focus is on the Alexandria investigation.

While Alexandria police say they are narrowing their scope on Severance in the investigation into the three unsolved murders. However, they are not calling Severance a suspect.
