Kyrgios splits with coach after Wimbledon run

The Associated Press

Rising Australian tennis star Nick Kyrgios has split with coach Simon Rea two weeks after stunning top-ranked Rafael Nadal to reach the Wimbledon quarterfinals.

Kyrgios announced on his website Saturday that he was switching to two Australian coaches — Josh Eagle and Todd Larkham — to spend more time at his home in the Australian capital, Canberra.

The 19-year-old Kyrgios had worked with Rea, a New Zealander based in Melbourne, since winning the Australian Open junior title in January 2013.

Playing in only his fifth major tournament, Kyrgios (pronounced KEER-ee-os) became the first man to reach the quarterfinals in his Wimbledon debut in 10 years.
