CLEVELAND (AP) — New York Yankees outfielder Carlos Beltran broke his nose after being hit with a ball during batting practice before Wednesday’s game.

Beltran was injured when a ball caromed off the batting cage and hit him in the face. Beltran said following the Yankees’ 5-4, 14-inning victory over the Cleveland Indians that he has two broken bones in his nose.

“The ball hit the screen, bounced back and hit me in the face, in my nose,” said Beltran, who had X-rays and a CT scan. “It’s just a fracture in two different areas. At the end of the day, I feel good, my head feels good. I had a headache for the whole day and now it’s getting better. So hopefully tomorrow it will get better and I could be back soon.”

Beltran missed the first two games of the series with soreness behind his right knee and was in Wednesday’s original lineup as the designated hitter. He is batting .216 with nine homers and 28 RBIs.

Derek Jeter, who was scheduled to have the night off, was the DH and went 2 for 6.

Left fielder Brett Gardner also missed the game with a lower abdominal strain.
