Westover Beer Garden brewpub expansion gets name, opening date

The Germans perfected the beer garden. The Westover Beer Garden will pay homage to those roots by giving its second location a German name.

The Clarendon expansion, which was first announced in March, will be called Sehkraft Beer Garden and Haus, ARLNow.com reports. Sehkraft is pronounced “say-craft” and is a German word for eyesight or vision. Owner Devin Hicks expects the spot to be a sight for sore eyes on the craft beer scene: Arlington’s first brewery, with five tap lines flowing from the beer tanks directly to the bar.

And that’s not the half of it. Sehkraft will have another five taps pouring kegged beers that have been brewed on the premises and 30 additional taps serving other suds.

Sehkraft’s head brewer will be John Peters, formerly lead brewer at Ashburn’s Lost Rhino brewery. Peters and Hicks collaborated on a high octane, triple IPA two years ago and Sehkraft will continue the trend. Collaborations are already planned with West Coast craft beer giants Sierra Nevada Brewing and Stone Brewing.

There are also plans afoot to distribute Sehkraft’s beers to area bars and restaurants after it opens in March 2015, though some legal challenges remain.
