Suspect who jumped off Va. bridge still missing

COLONIAL HEIGHTS, Va. (AP) — The search for a suspect who jumped off a bridge during a chase has been halted.

Virginia State Police spokeswoman Corinne Geller tells The Progress-Index (http://bit.ly/U0JvVp ) that the agency’s Search and Recovery Team conducted a grid search under and around the bridge. She says the search concluded Sunday without any leads or updates.

Geller says state police still consider the search active until the man is found.

The man jumped off the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Bridge on Route 1 between Colonial Heights and Petersburg on Friday evening.

A trooper had attempted to stop a vehicle driven by the suspect in Colonial Heights for an equipment violation. The vehicle fled and then stopped about a minute later in the middle of the bridge spanning the Appomattox River.
