Police from Chevy Chase Village want help identifying a man they said would’ve burglarized a home had an alert neighbor not scared him off.

According to the Chevy Chase Village Police Department, the incident happened at about 9:15 a.m. on Saturday, July 5.

A black man who appears to be in his 20s entered a fenced backyard in the 5400 block of Grove Street, police said. As the man took off his shirt and “nervously moved around the back near the rear of the home,” a neighbor saw and called police, police said.

At the same time, a security camera at the home caught much of the man’s activity.

Police said an officer was on scene within 90 seconds, but the suspect had already left, apparently scared off by the neighbor’s movement.

The man is shown wearing white sneakers, blue jeans and a white t-shirt. Police are asking anyone who can identify the man to contact the Chevy Chase Village Police Department.
