Liriano expected to rejoin Pirates rotation

ST. LOUIS (AP) — Left-hander Francisco Liriano will likely be activated from the 15-day disabled list and rejoin the Pittsburgh Pirates rotation this weekend after making one impressive rehab start from a strained left oblique.

Manager Clint Hurdle said Tuesday that Gerrit Cole, who will be placed on the 15-day disabled list Wednesday with a strained lat, will likely make one rehab start and then also get plugged back into the rotation.

Liriano, 1-6 with a 4.60 ERA in 14 starts, worked six scoreless innings for Triple-A Indianapolis on Monday. Hurdle said all of the reports were positive.

Cole was expected to play catch Tuesday, reflecting the team’s belief the injury is not serious. He was also on the DL in June with shoulde fatigue.
