Woman, 65, stabbed while watching fireworks

FALLS CHURCH, Va. (AP) — Police say a 65-year-old woman was stabbed by an unknown assailant while watching fireworks in a shopping center parking lot in the Falls Church area.

The stabbing occurred around 10:25 p.m. on July Fourth. Fairfax County police say the woman was sitting with a group of friends when a young man approached her from behind and stabbed her in the upper body. A witness tried to chase the assailant but couldn’t locate him.

The woman was taken to a hospital for treatment of serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

Police say they’re hoping other witnesses will come forward with information they can use to identify a suspect.
