Sandoval leaves game after being hit by pitch

SAN DIEGO (AP) — San Francisco Giants third baseman Pablo Sandoval left Saturday’s game in the first inning with a left elbow bruise after he was hit while swinging at a pitch.

Sandoval was facing San Diego’s Odrisamer Despaigne with a 0-1 count when he swung at an 87 mph slider and missed. But the ball struck Sandoval on the left elbow. He stayed out of the batters box for about a minute. Sandoval stayed in the game and faced one more pitch before Brandon Belt was then thrown out trying to steal second base for the third out.

Joaquin Arias replaced Sandoval at third base in the bottom of the inning.
