Md. girl, 15, wounded by apparent stray bullet

FREDERICK, Md. (AP) — Frederick police say a 15-year-old girl was wounded in the leg by an apparent stray bullet.

The shooting occurred around 10:45 p.m. on July Fourth. Police say someone in a group of males fired a handgun from the area of Rhode Island Court in the Lucas Village Community, a public-housing development.

Police say the 15-year-old girl was struck by a bullet while she was walking with friends on Sanger Avenue. Police don’t believe she was the intended target of the gunfire. She was taken to a hospital for treatment of a non-life-threatening injury.

Police have not identified any suspects.
