D.C.-based Douglas Development is ready to start the redevelopment process on the Bethesda block that includes the shuttered Ranger Surplus store.

Douglas Development and law firm Linowes and Blocher will present early plans for the up to 135-unit residential building at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, July 15. The mixed-use project will also include up to 4,000 square feet of commercial space.

The required pre-submittal community meeting is set for the Bethesda-Chevy Chase Regional Services Center (4805 Edgemoor Lane).

For now, the project is called 8008 Wisconsin Avenue. That’s the spot Ranger Surplus vacated early this year after 18 years in Bethesda. The project would also be built on the existing drycleaner property at 8010 Wisconsin Ave. and Dunmore’s Beer and Wine (more commonly known as the “beer house”) at 8013 Woodmont Ave.

Douglas Development bought the properties late last year for $9.2 million with the plan to build a mixed-use project and catch on to the wave of redevelopment hitting Woodmont Triangle.

In December, Douglas Development Principal Norman Jemal told the Washington Business Journal he doesn’t expect to start work on the project until 2015.
