Mourning becomes Laureus ambassador

MIAMI (AP) — Former Miami Heat star Alonzo Mourning has been chosen as an ambassador for the Laureus Sport for Good Foundation.

Mourning was inducted at the Overtown Youth Center in Miami that he helped found in 2004. He says he is joining Laureus “to bring the success we’ve seen in sport for development in Miami to other communities around the globe.”

Mourning won the award for the NBA’s top defensive player twice in his 15-year career and made a comeback after a kidney transplant. He also is involved with a kidney-disease charity, Zo’s Fund for Life.
