Spain’s Gomez wins ITU World Triathlon in Chicago

CHICAGO (AP) — Spain’s Javier Gomez pulled away late in the run Sunday at Grant Park for his fourth ITU World Triathlon Series victory of the season.

Gomez completed the 1,500-meter swim, 38.1-kilometer bike ride and 10-kilometer run in 1 hour, 47 minutes, 21 seconds. Portugal’s Joao Pereira was second in 1:47:29, and Spain’s Mario Mola followed in 1:47:40.

Gomez leads the season standings with 3,742 points. Mola is second with 3,322.
