NEW DELHI (AP) — Five construction company officials have now been detained in southern India, as rescuers search for dozens of workers who are believed to have been buried under the rubble of a building under construction.

It collapsed during monsoon rains, at a time when nearly 90 contract workers were believed to have been in the basement to collect their wages. Eleven people are confirmed dead, and crews say it could take three days to clear the rubble. Police say at least 20 survivors have been found.

Crews are using gas cutters, iron rods and shovels after cranes lift concrete blocks. Rescuers have heard feeble voices in the debris.

Earlier yesterday, a four-story building toppled in an area of New Delhi inhabited by the poor. Eleven people died there.
