FIFA confirms David Luiz as Brazil’s scorer

RIO DE JANEIRO (AP) — FIFA has confirmed David Luiz as the scorer of Brazil’s goal in the World Cup match against Chile.

Saturday’s second-round match finished 1-1 after extra time before Brazil won a penalty shootout.

FIFA says its technical study group ruled that Luiz, not Chile defender Gonzalo Jara, got the final touch on the ball.

Brazil went ahead in the 18th minute in Belo Horizonte when Luiz and Jara competed for the ball at the far post after Thiago Silva deflected Neymar’s corner kick.

FIFA’s technical study group is composed of coaches and former players from across the world to evaluate team tactics and strategy at all its tournaments.
