2 slain, club closed over weekend in DC

WASHINGTON (AP) — Police say two people have been slain in the nation’s capital during a weekend in which all the city’s police officers were on duty as part of an initiative called All Hands on Deck.

The first slaying occurred early Saturday morning a few blocks from Union Station. D.C. police say 48-year-old Talbert Bright was fatally shot. The scene is near a homeless shelter.

Early Sunday, police say a woman was fatally stabbed inside a home in southeast Washington. Police have named any suspects or identified the woman.

Also, police say a group was seen fighting in front of a nightclub called Lux Lounge around 3:30 a.m. Saturday, and someone fired a gun during the fight. The shooting prompted Chief Cathy Lanier to order an emergency four-day closure of the club.
