CUMBERLAND, Md. (AP) — The head of the Greater Cumberland Regional Airport’s management board is quitting amid a dispute over car races on the tarmac.
The Cumberland Times-News (http://bit.ly/1vdSyOr ) reports that Creade Brodie resigned Thursday as chairman of the Potomac Highlands Airport Authority.
Brodie says he and his family have been harassed since the board voted June 12 to stop hosting National Road Autosport events. The airport lacks commercial air service but is used by general aviation and business aircraft.
The 11-year-old racing tradition has given the community an economic boost. But board members say it puts Federal Aviation Administration grant dollars at risk and raises liability concerns.
The board decided not to forward the racing group’s permit application to the FAA, and to help the group use property outside the airport fence instead.
