TRENTON, N.J. (AP) — The former mayor of New Jersey’s capital city is behind bars.

Former Trenton Mayor Tony Mack reported to a medium-security federal prison in West Virginia on Thursday.

A judge sentenced Mack to nearly five years in prison after he was found guilty in February of bribery, fraud and extortion while he was still in office.

Mack was snared in a government sting. Prosecutors say he accepted bribes in exchange for helping get approvals to develop a parking garage in a phony deal.

In addition to serving four years, 10 months, the 48-year-old also must complete 100 hours of community service and pay $3,000 in fines.

Mack joins a string of New Jersey mayors convicted in corruption cases since 2000 that included the leaders of Newark, Camden and Asbury Park.
