FIFA confirms model Bundchen’s role at final

RIO DE JANEIRO (AP) — Brazilian model Gisele Bundchen will be part of World Cup final ceremonies on July 13.

However, FIFA secretary general Jerome Valcke dismissed reports that Bundchen, who is married to New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady, will present the trophy to the winning captain.

Valcke says Bundchen will join Carles Puyol, a player on Spain’s 2010 winning team, in carrying the trophy on the pitch before the match at Maracana Stadium in Rio de Janeiro.

World Cup protocol requires the presidents of the host nation and FIFA to jointly present the trophy.

Valcke says Dilma Rousseff and Sepp Blatter “should give the trophy to the winning team.”
