Autopsy: VA student died in NJ from gunshots

WEST ORANGE, N.J. (AP) — Authorities say a college student killed in northern New Jersey died from gunshot wounds.

Essex County authorities said Friday that an autopsy found Brendan Tevlin of Livingston died from multiple gunshots to the body.

Police say Tevlin was found dead on Thursday near a West Orange housing complex in the car he had been driving.

The 19-year-old was a 2013 graduate of Seton Hall Preparatory School and a rising sophomore at The University of Richmond.

Essex County Chief of Detectives Anthony Ambrose tells The Star-Ledger (http://bit.ly/1lVKBfO ) the incident appears to be isolated and not a random act.

Police are investigating who may have targeted the popular lacrosse player.

Matt Cannizzo of Seton Hall Prep said hundreds attended a mass on Thursday for Tevlin, who he described as “a model citizen.”
