Henrico deputy killed in private vehicle wreck

GOOCHLAND, Va. (AP) — A Henrico County sheriff’s deputy is dead following a private vehicle accident in Goochland County.

Goochland County Sheriff James L. Agnew tells the Richmond Times-Dispatch (http://bit.ly/1pmXh3b ) that a vehicle driven by 23-year-old Gabriel T. Pearce of Rockville ran off state Route 622, hit several trees and overturned.

Pearce was ejected from the vehicle. Agnew says the deputy wasn’t wearing a seatbelt.

The accident occurred around 2:40 a.m. Thursday.

The cause of the accident hasn’t been determined.

Henrico County Sheriff Michael Wade says Pearce was hired as a full-time deputy in April after participating in a program for people interested in law enforcement careers.

Wade says Pearce worked in security at the Henrico County Jail-West.
