US beats Argentina 118-64 in FIBA Americans U-18

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) — Jalen Brunson scored 16 points to help the United States beat Argentina 118-64 on Sunday night in the FIBA Americas Under-18 Championship.

The United States finished the preliminary round 3-0 to set up a semifinal game against the Dominican Republic (2-1) on Monday night. Canada (3-0) will play Argentina (2-1) in the other semifinal. The semifinalists earned spots in the 2015 FIBA U19 World Championship in Greece.

Brunson, from Lincolnshire, Illinois, also had six assists. Tyler Lydon of Elizaville, New York, added 14 points.

“The guys did a good job tonight,” said U.S. coach Billy Donovan of the University of Florida. “I think during our last three games, we’ve gotten better in some areas and we got a chance to learn in some other areas, so we’re excited that we’ve been able to move on and advance to the medal round.”

The Americans opened play Friday night with a 156-58 victory over Uruguay, and beat Mexico 100-46 on Saturday night.
