CINCINNATI (AP) — Cincinnati Reds second baseman Brandon Phillips left Sunday’s game against Toronto in the middle of the fifth inning.

No reason for his leaving the game was immediately announced.

After going 0 for 2, Phillips was pinch-hit for by Ramon Santiago in the bottom of the fifth inning. Santiago struck out looking to end the inning, and stayed in the game at second base.

Phillips is in his ninth season with Cincinnati and has 699 RBIs with the Reds. He is trying to become the 12th player in franchise history to reach 700.
