US defeats Bulgaria in 4-set World League win

HOFFMAN ESTATES, Ill. (AP) — Outside hitter Taylor Sander led all scorers with 20 points and the U.S. men’s national volleyball team improved to 7-0 in World League play with a 3-1 victory over Bulgaria on Friday night.

Sander had 14 kills, three blocks and three aces in the 20-25, 25-22, 25-16, 25-16 win. The two teams meet again on Saturday night, with the United States needing one more win to advance to the World League final round in Florence, Italy, in July.

Opposite Matt Anderson added 14 points for the United States and captain Sean Rooney had 13 points.

Venelin Kadankov had 15 points, on 12 attacks, one block and two aces, to lead Bulgaria, which is 0-7 in World League play.
