Slade Power wins the Diamond Jubilee Stakes

ASCOT, England (AP) — Slade Power lived up to his billing as the bookies’ favorite with victory on Saturday in the Diamond Jubilee Stakes, the feature race on the final day of Royal Ascot.

The 7-2 shot, ridden by Wayne Lordan and trained by Eddie Lynam, beat Due Diligence with Aljamaaheer finishing third in the six-furlong Group One contest.

Slade Power enhanced his growing reputation, a month on from his comeback win at The Curragh in Ireland. The five-year-old colt was among the leading pack from the start and withstood the challenge of a 14-horse field.

That win completed a sprint double for Lynam, who on Tuesday celebrated Sole Power’s win in the King Stand Stakes.

Jockey Lordan says “he travelled real well. It feels great.”
