DC police investigate slaying in Columbia Heights

WASHINGTON (AP) — D.C. police are investigating a fatal shooting in the Columbia Heights neighborhood of northwest Washington.

Police say 27-year-old Luis Aliva Melendez of Washington was shot early Saturday morning. He was found in the 1600 block of Columbia Road, Northwest, several blocks away from the bustling Adams Morgan nightlife district. He was taken to a hospital, where he died.

Police haven’t released any information about suspects or a possible motive.

Police say about an hour later and one mile away, three men and one woman were shot. Police say the victims suffered non-life-threatening injuries, and the shooting isn’t believed to be related to the earlier homicide.
