Bomb under car seat kills Somali journalist

MOGADISHU, Somalia (AP) — A journalist in Somalia’s capital says a bomb planted under the car seat of a Somali reporter exploded and killed him.

Abdinasir Mohamed Ali said that his colleague at Mustaqbal radio, Yusuf Keynan, died when the bomb exploded as he started his car to travel to work in Mogadishu on Saturday.

No group immediately claimed responsibility for the attack.

Keynan is the first journalist murdered in Somalia this year following a series of attacks against journalists over the past two years. Targeted attacks against journalists were common in 2012 and 2013, but most of those murders were carried out by gunmen.

Somalia is one of the most dangerous countries to be a journalist, according to the Committee to Protect Journalists.
