Pippa Middleton biking to Annapolis

WASHINGTON — The sister of the future Queen of England is set to visit Annapolis, but it’s not for any royal duties.

Pippa Middleton — the sister of the Duchess of Campbridge, Kate — is participating in the Race Across America, an eight-person bicycle relay that began in Oceanside Pier in San Diego Saturday and ends in Annapolis by June 24.

Participants are bicycling 3,000 miles across the country.

Pippa, 30, is expected to clock about 300 miles herself on the journey, which will cover 12 states and climb a total of 170,000 feet, according to the event’s website.

Pippa is supporting Michael Matthews Foundation, which helps provide education to children around the world who otherwise wouldn’t receive one. Also, she is raising money for the British Heart Foundation, according to the Baltimore Sun.

Pippa’s 27-year-old brother, James, is riding with the team as well.

Annapolis city officials told the Baltimore Sun they are “thrilled” that Middleton is racing and will be in the city.

The cyclists will finish in Susan Campbell Park some time between June 20 and June 24.

After the race, Pippa will auction off her bike on eBay with proceeds benefiting the British Heart Foundation.
