WASHINGTON – Children around the D.C. area are cooling down and having some fun as they enjoy the city’s spray parks.
“The spray parks are designed to be like a playground with water features,” explains Tyrell Lashley with the D.C. Department of Parks and Recreation.
The agency opened the city’s 19 spray parks a week ahead of schedule due to the heat wave.
“With safety as the highest priority we thought it was imperative to provide residents an opportunity to cool off,” Lashley says.
India Queen, a daycare provider, brought a group of 13 children to the spray park at the Macomb Recreation Center in Northwest Wednesday.
“They came ready and waiting,” Queen says. “They came in this morning looking forward to enjoying the sprinkler at the park.”
“We usually go to the pool but we thought this would be a nice alternative,” says mother Tracy-Silverman-Mednik.
She brought her 3-year-old daughter Ashley.
“She loves water. So this is the perfect activity for her.”
