Whether the Washington Redskins make it to the playoffs this year might come down to how strong a relationship new coach Jay Gruden is able to cultivate with the team, especially quarterback Robert Griffin III. So Redskins fans everywhere might just take glee in knowing that Gruden and Griffin are now neighbors.

Gruden, who was named Redskins head coach in January, and his wife, Sherry, closed June 5 on a newly constructed home at Creighton Farms, the same posh Loudoun County development where RGIII bought his home last year. The project, also home to golf legend Jack Nicklaus, features 184 homes and a golf course designed by Nicklaus himself.

Gruden and Griffin will be able to bond over a couple points of the deal: Both properties were built by Apex Custom Homes and both traded for $2.5 million, according to Loudoun County land records. The vital stats: four bedrooms; 4.5 bathrooms, about 5,245 square feet and homeowners association dues of $440 a month.

Gruden’s home was listed with a hard sale price of $2.5 million through Realty World Select, though Apex represented itself in the transaction, Realty World broker Dan Lesher said. Long & Foster represented Gruden, the former Cincinnati Bengals offensive coordinator.
