WASHINGTON — Getting a driver’s license has changed from a stage of growth to a problem of safety for many teens and Maryland has ranked as one of the safer places for teens to drive, according to a study by WalletHub.
WalletHub broke down the data to compare the driving conditions for teens in the 50 U.S. states. D.C. was not included in the ranking.
Safety conditions, economic environment and driving laws of each state were examined to decide the best states for teen drivers.
The 2014’s best states for teen drivers include:
- New York
- Hawaii
- Illinois
- Oregon
- Rhode Island
- Massachusetts
- Maryland
- Delaware
- Washington
- Nevada
WalletHub says the study is so “parents and responsible guardians can take the necessary precautions to ensure the safety of their teens and the health of their wallets in the coming months.”
If your son or daughter is looking to get a driver’s license, the summer is the most common time for them to do so, according to the research. More teens receive their driver’s license during the summer than any other season.
Auto accidents during the summer season cause 260 teen deaths each month, according to the research.
