EL SEGUNDO, Calif. (AP) — Officials say Los Angeles Air Force Base remains on lockdown after a man was reported on the grounds with ammunition and wires sticking out of a backpack.

Police closed the base and surrounding streets while they searched for the man but had not found him some two hours after the initial report.

Susan James, who works in public affairs on the small base near Los Angeles International Airport, said Tuesday that employees were told about 1:45 p.m. to go to a secure area of their office and remain there.

El Segundo police Capt. Brian Evanski told the Daily Breeze newspaper that a man was spotted on the base wearing camouflage attire with a backpack or possibly a vest showing wires and ammunition.
