BALTIMORE (AP) — Acting Secretary of Veterans Affairs Sloan Gibson is scheduled to visit the Baltimore VA Medical Center.

Gibson is scheduled to meet with medical center leadership, employees and stakeholders on Tuesday. He has scheduled a news conference, as well.

The visit follows the release of a national audit by the Department of Veterans Affairs last week

The audit found that the average wait time for new patients seeking a primary care doctor at the VA Maryland Health Care System is 81 days. That was the fourth-longest at facilities examined nationwide.

The Maryland system is not among those currently under investigation by the Office of the Inspector General in regard to allegations of inappropriate appointment scheduling practices at some VA medical centers across the country.
