DC man sentenced to 12 years for robbing banks

GREENBELT, Md. (AP) — A D.C. man has been sentenced to 12 years in prison for robbing banks in Washington and Maryland and possessing child pornography.

Twenty-six-year-old Devontae West was also ordered to register as a sex offender at sentencing Monday federal court in Greenbelt.

According to his plea agreement, West and others stole cars to use in bank robberies and used juveniles to go into the banks and demand money.

Prosecutors say West took part in five robberies between March 20 and May 22, 2013.

Authorities also say West had pictures on his cellphone of himself having sex with a 15-year-old girl he told to rob banks.
