Baltimore police kill man during shootout

BALTIMORE (AP) — Baltimore city police say an officer fatally shot a man who was engaged in a gunfight with another person.

Police say the second shooter disappeared after the on-duty officer arrived at the scene Sunday afternoon on Beaufort Avenue. They’re asking anyone with information about the incident to call police.

The dead man was identified as 31-year-old Eric Harris.

Deputy Commissioner Jerry Rodriguez says the officer rolled into the middle of a gunfight that was already in progress.

Rodriguez says the officer got out of his car and shouted orders to one of the armed suspects. He says that individual failed to comply, and the officer fired.
