Man pleads guilty in Virginia to human trafficking

HARRISONBURG, Va. (AP) — A Honduran man faces 10 years in prison after pleading guilty in Virginia to a human trafficking charge.

Elin Coello-Ordonez already is serving a five-year federal sentence on an immigration-related charge. U.S. Attorney Timothy J. Heaphy says this charge stemmed from the same investigation.

Coello-Ordonez entered his plea to the human trafficking charge on Friday in federal court in Harrisonburg. Under a plea agreement, the 32-year-old would be sentenced to 10 years in prison. The agreement must be approved by the court.

Heaphy says in a news release that Coello-Ordonez forced a Honduran teenager to engage in prostitution. When she resisted, Coello-Ordonez physically abused her.
