Double legal trouble for local high school teacher

WASHINGTON — A Prince William County high school teacher is on administrative leave after her arrest and now she’s facing trouble on two fronts.

Linda Burke, 41, an ESOL teacher at Potomac High School in Dumfries, Va. is being investigated for possibly having and inappropriate relationship with a minor student.

On Wednesday, Burke was arrested after police say she assaulted a state police officer investigating the allegation involving the student.

The Virginia State Police are heading up the investigation since Burke has a relationship with someone in the Prince William county police department. Fox 5 reports that Burke is married to a Prince William County police detective.

Burke is out of jail but is due in court on July 8 for the attack on the officer, a felony assault charge and a misdemeanor charge of obstruction of justice.

Meanwhile, a Virginia State Police spokeswoman says the investigation involving the student continues.

Phil Kavits, spokesman for Prince William County schools says Burke will continue to be on administrative leave until both legal issues are resolved.
