Mississippi congressman undergoes brain surgery

WASHINGTON (AP) — The chairman of the House Appropriations Committee says Mississippi Rep. Alan Nunnelee has undergone surgery for a brain tumor.

Rep. Hal Rogers of Kentucky made the announcement on Tuesday at the start of a committee hearing. Rogers said Nunnelee was in surgery for 12 hours on Monday and was recovering. Rogers had no further details.

Nunnelee, a Republican, was elected in the GOP wave in November 2010 and has represented Mississippi’s 1st Congressional District since January 2011.
