Clasie looks likely to start for Dutch vs Spain

RIO DE JANEIRO (AP) — Feyenoord midfielder Jordy Clasie increasingly looks set to start for the Netherlands against Spain in their World Cup opener on Friday.

Dutch media who took to nearby high rise buildings to watch a closed training session Monday report that Clasie was among a group of players who trained together and are widely expected to form Louis van Gaal’s starting 11.

The game will be a highly anticipated rematch of the 2010 final in Johannesburg that Spain won 1-0 after extra time.

Clasie would replace Jonathan de Guzman in Van Gaal’s three-man midfield. The Swansea star picked up a hamstring injury in a pre-tournament friendly against Wales last week.

Clasie made his international debut in 2012 and has yet to score in eight appearances for the Netherlands.
