Boehner: Not briefed on Taliban-Bergdahl swap

WASHINGTON (AP) — House Speaker John Boehner (BAY’-nur) says he was briefed on the super-secret mission to take out Osama Bin Laden but was kept in the dark ahead of the swap of five Taliban Guantanamo Bay prisoners for prisoner of war Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl (boh BURG’-dahl).

Boehner and other lawmakers had raise sharp concerns when briefed more than two years ago on the possibility of such a trade. But the Ohio Republican told reporters that he “was never briefed on any specific negotiation.”

Boehner said the swap violates the policy of refusing to negotiate with terrorists and that America is less safe as a result. He predicted that it will cost U.S. lives.
